Mummy MOT
What is a Mummy MOT?
A post-natal examination recommended for all women following childbirth – whether 6 weeks after delivery or many years later.
In France, a post-natal physiotherapy assessment is part of the rehabilitation, where trained specialists assess the strength and function of the tummy and pelvic floor muscles.
The aim of this check-up is to help prevent long-term childbirth related complaints and provide education on safe functional rehabilitation to return to pre-natal activity.
What does a Mummy MOT include?
- 75-minute specialised post-natal assessment with a Specialist Post Natal Physiotherapist
- In-depth check of pelvic floor strength and tummy gap
- Assessment of any physical problems arising from pregnancy and birth
- Report of findings (like an MOT)
- A bespoke post-natal recovery programme including specific and safe post-natal exercises to improve stability, posture and core strength.
Who would benefit from a Mummy MOT?
A Mummy MOT helps all women from 6 weeks until years after childbirth. After having a baby, half of all women have a weakness in either their tummy or pelvic floor area, while over a third suffer with complex pelvic pain. This can create instability and weak core strength and results in altered transfer load, back pain, pelvic pain, and bladder and bowel weakness. This specialised post-natal assessment helps women avoid these distressing symptoms.
The assessment enables the creation of a bespoke post-natal recovery programme plan devised especially for the woman, her lifestyle and fitness goals, including specific and safe post-natal exercises to regain stability and optimum function.
